Potter's Clay

1 This is the word that came to Jeremiah from the LORD: 2 "Go down to the potter's house, and there I will give you my message." 3 So I went down to the potter's house, and I saw him working at the wheel. 4 But the pot he was shaping from the clay was marred in his hands; so the potter formed it into another pot, shaping it as seemed best to him. 5 Then the word of the LORD came to me: 6 "O house of Israel, can I not do with you as this potter does?" declares the LORD. "Like clay in the hand of the potter, so are you in my hand, O house of Israel. - Jeremiah 18. 1-6.

How willing are you to allow God to make you into His perfect design for you?

Really we all want to shout “Yes” to that, without a doubt we know our richest blessings, greatest fulfillment lies in being perfectly in God’s will. But the real question is…what if His will is not the same as my will?

That sums up our frequent hesitation to simply let God work in our life!

Letting go at times can seem so hard and even when we say we do, we still (in the deep corners of our heart) want to hold on, hold back or even yet correct God’s judgment. I have struggled with this too and I share my testimony here.

  • It is all about your attitude and positioning to God.
  •  Do you honestly trust Him?
  • Acknowledge His Lordship in our life? Being yielded to God is an active position of trusting him.

His work in us is progressive, so sometimes we can’t always see the end at the beginning, hence we trust God. Progressive also means over time.

Here is where we can have a big challenge as His timing and ours rarely meet. We often operate in an environment where the urgent and the important collide.

Stay focused – what is important is God’s will and allowing Him to fashion our lives, inevitably what we think is urgent gets dealt with, in His time. And what if seems God is not working to your time? Remember, God owns time it is never too late.

We have many verses of encouragement and directions to trust God. Take a moment a read a few:

  • 1 Peter 5:7 - Cast all your anxiety on him because he cares for you.
  • Isaiah 26:4 - 4 Trust in the LORD forever, for the LORD, the LORD, is the Rock eternal.
  • Nahum 1:7 - 7 The LORD is good, a refuge in times of trouble. He cares for those who trust in him,
  • Proverbs 3:5-7 - Trust in the LORD with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; 6 in all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make your paths straight. 7 Do not be wise in your own eyes; fear the LORD and shun evil.
  • Isaiah 64:8 - 8 Yet, O LORD, you are our Father. We are the clay, you are the potter; we are all the work of your hand.

Make that decision today, that you will trust God. If you have made that decision before them maybe it is time to rededicate your life to Him. Allow him to fashion your life so that it blossoms into the fullness of his design and destiny for you. It starts as a decision and progresses as a day by day relationship built on trusting God, hearing his voice and obeying.

Prayer Guide

Pray that God strengthens you in the spirit so that you can believe Him at his Word and trust Him in all your ways. Also take the time to pray that God will protect you from all who would seek to distract you and cause you to doubt. Be strong in the Lord and the power of his might.

How to Keep Meditating

As you know I firmly believe in keeping memorials, our memory does fade with time.

Take the time to write out the verses above or others that you have researched and commit them to memory. Use them in your daily prayer life as statements of declaration – I shall trust in the Lord.

You gently call me into your presence
Guiding me by your holy spirit
Teach me dear lord to live all of my life through your eyes

I'm captured by your holy calling
Set me apart. I know you're drawing me to yourself
lead me, Lord. I pray
